I see you. I see your tired eyes after working a 12 hour night shift and yet you still make our sweet babies breakfast and let me rest just a little bit longer. I see how your feet ache after being on them all night and yet you put the music on loud and dance full throttle with the little ones, as they giggle and wiggle, soaking up every second with you. You make our family what it is. Your absence is always felt by each of us. I see your love for our children and it makes me fall even more in love with you.
I see you. Even when you think I don’t. I see how you’ve guarded your heart for fear of being hurt. I see the way you try so hard to fight your inner demons; how you go forward, even when you feel inadequate and unsure. I see the strength within you.
I see you. I see how easy it would have been for you to give up on us, on me…but you never did. I see how hard you’ve worked to open up your heart. I see the way you try to act like sappy stories don’t bother you, but tear up as you tell me about the old man who died on your shift while his wife was away for the first time in two weeks. I see the sweetness you try to hide.
I see you. I see your love for your family. I see the tenderness you show your younger brother as you walk with him. I see the love you have for our little ones, as you tuck them in at night and read them the story I was too tired to read. I see you pick up my slack, time and time again.
I see you. I see your love for me. It’s taken me long enough, but I see it now. I see how you support me even when you don’t agree with me. I see how you try to give me quality time, but your eyes close and you fall asleep because you’re so exhausted from working nights. What you don’t realize is, just being next to you is enough for me.
You are a good man.
You are my good man. And for that, I’ll be eternally grateful.
Thank you for all you do.
